It is a representative fern of the Paleozoic Era and first appeared in the Devonian Period, but flourished in the Carboniferous Period and became extinct in the Permian Period. In Korea, the coal seam of Taebaek, Gangwon-do was created. It belongs to the Marattiales family and although the leaves themselves are not large, the tree trunk is very large, the rhizome is wide, and the fern leaves are large. It is derived from ancient sedimentary layers accumulated in the late Paleozoic Era.
