It is a solidified rock made up of sand-sized particles with a diameter of 0.063 to 2 mm. It is the second most common sedimentary rock after mudstone. Most sandstones are formed by solidifying quartz, but in some cases, feldspar forms the majority. Quartz is sometimes included as a type of neutral substance.
