The Plateau Limestone, a thick carbonate rock unit representing Permian–Triassic stratigraphy in Myanmar, is extensively developed on the Shan Plateau of eastern Myanmar. The Plateau Limestone in this part of the Shan Plateau was deposited in three different environmental settings: a shallow carbonate shelf (deposition of the Dolomitic Limestone Unit during Middle Permian and possibly into Early Triassic period); a deeper basinal area (deposition of the Cherty Limestone Unit during the Middle–Late Triassic); and a by-pass shelf margin, with deposition of the Reefal Limestone Unit (during the Middle–Late Triassic) (Zaw Win 2004).
