The many Ordovician shallower-water limestones (Naungkangyi Group in Myanmar, Thung Song Limestone in Thailand and Kaki Bukit Limestone in Western Malaysia) are particularly thick and of warm-water origin, and the relatively few fossils they contain are mostly low-diversity benthic faunas of brachiopods with a few trilobites, molluscs and other invertebrates. The largest Ordovician outcrops, which occur in the area between Mandalay and Pyin Oo Lwin, form the Naungkangyi Group (IGCP 1980) named after Naung Kangyi village, situated just north of Pyin Oo Lwin.
