In the Taungni-Pingadaw area, the Irrawaddy Formation is well developed in the outer western limb of a major anticline. The Irrawaddy Formation forms a lowland area with cultivated fields capped by recent alluvium, plateau gravels and red earth. In some places bad-land topography is developed. Fossil wood fragments, vertebrate bones and shark’s teeth are commonly found in the sandstones.
